Passport Services

Important Information

Whether you are renewing your passport or applying for the first time, you will need to complete an application form and submit it to the Australian High Commission in Mauritius with the required documents and photos.

Passports are currently subject to a minimum of 6 weeks processing time plus delivery.

These instructions guide you through the process and help ensure your application is complete.

Applying by Mail

Step 1: Eligibility

You are eligible to apply for a passport renewal if you are 18 years or older and your passport:

  • was issued when you were 16 years or older
  • was issued on or after 1 January 2006
  • had, when it was issued, at least 2 years' validity
  • has not been reported lost, stolen or cancelled

If you do not meet these criteria, you will need to lodge your passport application in person at the Australian High Commission in Mauritius (see below).

Step 2: Documentation

You can complete your passport renewal application form online on the Australian Passport Office website. Please ensure your application:

  • is filled out completely with black pen
  • is dated and signed within the white box
  • is printed correctly with all sections included
Step 3: Photos

You must submit two passport photos with your application. Please ensure your photos:

  • meet Australian passport photo standards. You can find passport photo guidelines on the Australian Passport Office website.
  • have been taken within the last six months
  • include one that has your name written in full on the reverse side
  • are not attached to the application form with paperclips or glue
Step 4: Submitting your Application

Before mailing your application to the High Commission, please email the application to [email protected] for checking. Please ensure that you:

  • include a scanned copy of your application form
  • include a digital copy of your photos

Once we have checked your application, we will provide postage and payment details.

Applying in Person

Step 1: Eligibility

If you are not eligible for a mailed in application, you must lodge your application in person at the Australian High Commission in Mauritius.

Step 2: Documentation

You can complete your application on a hard copy form or an online form:

To receive your form by post please email [email protected] and provide your full passport details.

To complete your form online

  • create an account on the Australian Passport Office website
  • complete your form online
  • print your form ensuring that all sections are included

You must submit all original documentation and certificates with your application, photocopies are not accepted.

Step 3: Photos

You must submit two passport photos with your application. Please ensure your photos:

  • meet Australian passport photo standards. You can find passport photo guidelines on the Australian Passport Office website.
  • have been taken within the last six months
  • include one that has your name written in full on the reverse side
  • are not attached to the application form with paperclips or glue
Step 4: Lodging your Application

Adult Application

  • if you are 18 years or older, you must lodge in person

Child Application

  • if the child is between 0 and 15 years old, they are not required to attend. One parent must lodge the application in person
  • if the child is 16 or 17 years of age, they must attend, together with one lodging parent
